Different types of jewelry you can sell at Spot4Coins
Jewelry is not only divided into necklaces, rings, earrings, etc. Its origin, purpose and meaning are also important criteria! It’s important that you recognize which type or era your jewelry comes from!
Pre-owned jewelry – This is a very wide category describing all the jewelry that had previously been owned by somebody. That means, it wasn’t bought as a new item. For example, if you bought a ring and after two weeks you decided to sell it to Spot4Coins, it will be labeled as pre-owned.
Estate jewelry – This is a different type of pre-owned jewelry. When a person dies and leaves their collection of brochets, it becomes estate jewelry. It applies to cases when there’s an heir to the jewelry and when it’s traded in an auction. It often comes with a fascinating story and while it probably won’t affect the price, the personal meaning of, for example, a necklace with an old family photo that was given to its owner before going to war, vastly increases!
Vintage jewelry – Some collectors claim that in order for a piece of jewelry to be considered vintage, it needs to be at least 20 years old and some say it needs to be 30 years old.
Leaving quarrels aside, Spot4Coins will buy any type of jewelry that breathes its era!
Antique jewelry – This nametag is only applicable to pieces that are 100 years of older. Usually owned by aristocrats, these pieces can be beautifully encrusted with precious stones.
Fine jewelry – This applies to jewelry made out of precious metals and/or containing gemstones.
High/Designer jewelry – Little wearable pieces of art made by famous designer houses such as Tiffany, Bvlgari or Chanel.
Costume/Travel jewelry – This type of jewelry is often plated with precious metals. That means there is a microscopic layer of a precious metal. That’s to cut the production costs and to reduce the financial loss should a piece be lost or damaged.
No matter what type of jewelry you have, send it to us. We offer cash for jewelry! Order your free envelope today!
How do we grade your gold jewelry
The most important factor that determines how much is your jewelry worth is the precious metals content. Two identical necklaces could be placed at drastically different price points if one is made out of gold and the second is just gold-plated. There are three types of gold jewelry we differentiate between (this also applies to other precious metals).
Golden – Made out of pure gold. Such pieces of jewelry reach the highest prices, but it’s relatively easy to wear them off due to gold’s relative softness.
Gold-plated – This type of jewelry has a microscopical layer of gold over a cheaper metal, usually silver, nickel or copper. It brings the price down and creates a piece that’s resistant to wear. The downplay is that the golden layer may start scrubbing off over time.
Gold-filled – Gold-filled jewelry is made out of an alloy of gold with a cheaper metal, usually nickel, silver or copper.
Make sure you remove all non-metallic elements from your jewelry before you send it to us! That includes jewels and gemstones. Spot4Coins is a metal-only dealership and any non-metallic elements will be removed by our staff and not taken into account when it comes to determining the price.
